Commission Reduces Rates for Portland General Electric Customers

Salem, Ore. Today the Oregon Public Utility Commissioners reduced rates by over 6% for residential and small-farm customers of Portland General Electric (PGE). The adjustment will take effect April 15, 2008.
The average residential customer using 900 kWh a month will see their bill drop by $5.80.
The reduction was made possible due to the restoration of Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) interim benefits.
“We will continue to make a case for Oregon to equitably share the benefits of the low-cost federal hydro system. In the meantime, we are pleased to be able to reduce rates at this time,” said Commission Chairman Lee Beyer.
Based on a decision last May by a federal court the BPA stopped paying benefits to PGE customers.
