The Department's mission is accomplished by:
- Providing law enforcement that is fair and impartial while providing direct services which benefit citizens.
- Preserving the peace.
- Prevention and detection of crime.
- Provide specialized service to local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.
- Maintaining emergency services systems by planning, preparing, and providing for mitigation and/or management of emergencies or disasters.
- Providing and coordinating programs that protect life and property from fire, hazardous materials, and other perils.
- Maintaining a statewide law enforcement data system which ensures access to criminal justice information services.
- Coordinating with public safety entities at the national, state, and local level to maximize resources that protect life, property, and natural resources of the state.
