Forestry Intern Program
LL Stub Stewart Trust Fund
Loran L. “Stub” Stewart served nearly 40 years on the State Parks and Recreation Advisory committee and the Oregon Parks and Recreation commission. Oregon State Parks grew by leaps and bounds thanks in part to his enthusiasm and commitment.

With the creation of the L.L. Stewart Oregon State Parks Student Internship Fund of  The Oregon Community Foundation  in 1990, forestry students have been given the opportunity to undertake summer internships with the forestry section. More than 25 students have worked on a variety of projects throughout the state.

2009 Internship Program
Field Notes from 2009 Intern Hillary Hogan
As OPRD's Forestry Intern this summer, I helped in laying the groundwork for a statewide forest inventory of OPRD's parks. Using aeriel photos and ArcGIS, I timber typed the state parks where a forest inventory would be appropriate. To supplement the computer work, I made several day trips with OPRD's Forester to "ground truth" some of our designated stands.

I assisted in timber marking at Silver Falls State Park, timber cruising at Cascadia State Park and assisted in stocking surveys at H.B. Van Duzer.

Working for OPRD this summer has opened a door of career possibilities to me.

Hillary Hogan: Is entering into her junior year at Oregon State University majoring in Forest Operations Management with a minor in business.
