Boaters can enjoy the convenience of a floating restroom.
The first floating restroom on the Columbia River offers boaters an option to dumping raw sewage into the river. The restroom is located between Government and McGuire islands east of the I-205 Bridge.
Western Fabrication Co. and Bergerson Construction, both of Astoria, built the restroom and installed the piles in the river. Rooster Rock staff will tow the restroom and attach it with hoops to the piles before the peak boating season and tow it to storage for the winter. Anti-perching pile caps prevent birds from perching on the piles and possibly feeding on young salmon.
The restroom was purchased with a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board.
