Body piercing technicians perform piercing services, including earlobe piercing, in licensed facilities. Body piercing technicians must be registered and adhere to stringent universal precautions for sterilization of needles and equipment, biohazard waste disposal and infection control practices formulated to state and national standards.
Education & Training
Applicants must:
Be at least 18 years old
Be a high school graduate or equivalent
Complete training in basic first aid, blood-borne pathogens and aftercare procedures (For a list of providers, click here to go to the Forms page.)
Applicants must pay an application fee and provide all of the required practitioner application materials. Once all application materials are processed and verified, the applicant must pay a registration fee.
There is no examination requirement for body piercing technicians.
Renewal Process
Body piercing technicians and facility owners may renew by mail or online if renewal occurs prior to the license or registration expiration date. Technicians and facility owners are subject to a late fee if they renew after the expiration date.
