Traffic Standards' New Web Site
Welcome to our new web site. While we are still part of the Traffic-Roadway Section (TRS), Traffic Standards now enjoys a new name along with an independent web site dedicated to Traffic Standards issues.

If you find errors or wish to make suggested improvements, feel free to contact the web editor using the web site feedback link in the footer of each page. We hope this site proves to be a valuable resource for you.
Sign Asset Management Database Near Completion
Sign Asset management is currently working with the ODOT district sign crews to populate their sign databases to create statewide consistency. ODOT is anticipating to have a complete sign database in the near future, which can be accessed by all parties, both internal and external to ODOT, for signing information. For additional information on Asset Management please use the link below.
This Summer is Proving to be a BIG Construction Season
The Traffic Control Plans (TCP) Unit is busy this Summer touring Oregon's Work Zones. This year has been another record construction season for ODOT. With the amount of federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and Oregon economic stimulus dollars on the road, the TCP Unit is projecting visiting over 50 construction projects covering all five regions during the tours this summer. This year will rival our largest previous year (2005) where 54 projects were reviewed - OTIA III's busiest year.

The Work Zone tours involve a variety of individuals evaluating 30 different criteria for each work zone. With over 50 projects being reviewed, the TCP Unit will have collected over 1500 scores for the year! The TCP Unit will summarize all this information and produce it's annual "Construction Work Zone Tour Summary Report" for 2009. Look for the Summary Report to be posted here by mid-October, 2009. Drive Safely!
Traffic Standards Disciplines
Illumination
Information on Illumination design, specifications, design manuals and approved products can be found on this page.
Signals
Provides engineering expertise for temporary traffic signals, permanent traffic signals, flashing beacons, ramp meters and some portions of weigh stations. The team also develops specifications, maintains standard drawings, and maintains qualified products lists. The team also reviews local agency and developer agreements and plans for traffic control devices, reviews new products, maintains asset management databases, and provides annual training and certification for inspectors of traffic signal construction.
Signs & Striping
SIGNING - Provides engineering expertise and maintains standards for all highway signs (see Sign Policy and Guidelines in Publications section).

STRIPING - Provides engineering expertise and maintains standards for striping and pavement markings (see Traffic Line Manual and Striping Design Guidelines in Publications section).
Structures
Provides engineering expertise and designs for sign bridges, cantilever sign supports, traffic signal poles, illumination poles, VMS supports and other miscellaneous traffic structures.
Traffic Control Plans
Develops the traffic control plans for construction projects. When construction projects suspend the normal function of the roadway, a traffic control plan is developed to assure the safety of all road users, and the protection of workers. At the same time, the traffic control plan provides for continuity of the movement of motor vehicles, bicycle and pedestrian traffic while allowing for the efficient completion of the construction project.
