Abandoned Vehicles on Your Property
General Information
There are no provisions in the law that allow you to claim ownership of an abandoned vehicle on your property, even if you have no knowledge of who owns the vehicle or why it was left there. Also, DMV cannot give you the name or address of the person who owns the vehicle.

Getting A Vehicle Towed
You may have an abandoned vehicle towed from your private property. ORS 98.830 outlines the steps you must take before having it towed:
  1. You must affix a notice to the vehicle stating that it will be towed if it is not removed, which must remain on the vehicle for 72 hours before the vehicle may be removed;
  2. You must notify your local law enforcement agency of your intent to have the vehicle towed; and
  3. You must fill out and sign a form that includes:
    • A description of the vehicle to be towed;
    • The location of the property from which the vehicle will be towed; and
    • A statement that you have complied with subsections 1 and 2 (described above) of this section of law [1995 c.758 §1].
