| Overview |

DMV requires that you pay for tests in advance.
If you are going to a DMV office to take a test, please be prepared to make a separate payment for it. For example, if you are planning to pay for multiple DMV fees by check, bring two separate checks:
- A check for payment of your testing fee; and
- A check for payments of your other fees (like fees for issuing or upgrading your driver license or instruction permit).
If you bring a single check for payment of all fees and fail your test, the DMV office cannot give you an immediate refund. You will need to submit a written request for a refund that will be processed later at a central location.
Note: DMV does not accept credit or debit cards, except for limited online transactions. Many office locations have ATMs available.
