Dismantler Certificate
A Dismantler Certificate authorizes an individual to:
  • Carry on or conduct the business of buying, selling or dealing in vehicles for the purpose of wrecking, dismantling, disassembling, and offering for sale the used vehicle components;
  • Carry on or conduct the business of buying, selling or dealing in vehicles for the purpose of wrecking, dismantling, disassembling or substantially altering the form of any motor vehicle;
  • Carry on or conduct the business of selling at wholesale wrecked, dismantled, disassembled or substantially altered vehicles; or
  • Engage in the activity of wrecking, dismantling, disassembling or substantially altering vehicles including the crushing, compacting or shredding of vehicles.
Vehicles include, but are not limited to cars, trucks, motorhomes and motorcycles.

To Qualify/Apply
In order to qualify and apply, you must:
  1. Complete an Application for Business Certificate as a Dismantler of Motor Vehicles or Salvage Pool Operator (Form 373);
  2. Get city/county local government approval of your business location;
  3. Supply a plat map or hand drawn map of your business location;
  4. Include ownership information on your application;
  5. Secure a $10,000 bond approved by the Attorney General's office; and
  6. Pay a $450 application fee.

To Renew
You must complete all of the steps defined in the To Qualify/Apply section above to renew a certificate, i.e., you must reapply every three years.

Note: Due to the additional costs of associated merchant fees, DMV offices do not accept credit or debit cards. They accept cash or checks only.

Duration of Certificate
A Dismantler Certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issuance.
