|
| 03/30/2007 |
WHAT – A review of the state’s classification system used to coordinate wildfire protection for forestlands and rural communities in Oregon.
WHO – Forestland Classification Steering Committee
WHEN – 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4
WHERE – A teleconference hosted at the Oregon Dept. of Forestry headquarters office, Building C, the Clatsop Room, 2600 State St., Salem. News media and the public are welcome to listen in on the teleconference meeting via speakerphone at this location.
WHY – Increasingly in Oregon, blazes in wildlands that have no fire protection are spreading onto protected forestlands. At the same time, urban sprawl into forested areas has elevated the wildfire risk and complicated firefighting efforts. These twin concerns have prompted a large-scale review of the state’s classification system used to coordinate wildfire protection for forestlands and rural communities.
