Fire Protection Districts thumbnail
Protection Districts
The ODF protection districts are the GIS representation of boundaries described in statute.  Private and some federal lands within the boundaries are protected from fire by ODF.  Most of the boundaries have been adjusted to the legal descriptions for the protection district boundaries compiled by the Protection From Fire Program.  The most recent update broke the Cascade District into North and South Cascade Districts.  The boundary is a proposed boundary and may be subject to change when finally adopted.

Fire Weather Zone
The fire weather zones are used by ODF for fire weather forecasting.   The weather zone boundaries were created by combining and extending lines from other themes that define geographic and cultural boundaries (see the linesource field values descriptions).  A digital coverage of weather zones created by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric(NOAA) was used as  a guide to place the boundaries.

State Forest Ownership thumbnail
State Forests Ownership
State Forest Lands ownership by district. The ownership layer is based on the PLSS layer.

Public Ownership thumbnail
Public Ownership
The public ownership layer shows land ownership/management for public entities, Federal, Tribal, State, and Local.  The base linework was derived mostly from the BLM Landlines (Public Land Survey & Jurisdiction) layer and from ODF ownership layer.  This base linework was enhanced using lines derived from the Government Corners Database (GCDB).

Rangeland Fire Protection Association
Rangeland Fire Protection Association boundary lines were created using some existing lines at scale 100k and some lines from the GCDB.

Tillamook Burn Seeding History
A digitized version of the Seeding History Maps of the Tillamook Burn.  The map books were created and maintained by George Martin and Larry Fick of the Forest Grove District.

Seed Zone thumbnail
Seed Zone
The seed zones areas within the state that contain genetically similar trees within a species.  The zones area designed to give guidance for determining appropriate tree seedling parental source area.  The zones were revised in 1996.  No species have been completed east of the cascades.  Lodgepole pine and black cottonwood are incomplete, and ponderosa pine needs work.

Historic Fires thumbnail
Historic Fires
Point locations for ODF statistical fires from 1962 to 2005.  The point locations for the fires were derived from ODF's FIRES database.  The location was derived from the legal location for those fires that had a valid legal location entered in the fires database.  Most of the locations for fires prior to 2003 were derived by using the legal location taken from the FIRES data fields.    These are the more recent fires.  This shapefile is updated annually.

Wildland-Urban Interface data
Wildland-Urban Interface
The Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) is the area where houses meet or intermingle with undeveloped wildland vegetation. This makes the WUI a focal area for human-environment conflicts such as wildland fires, habitat fragmentation, invasive species, and biodiversity decline. Using geographic information systems (GIS), we integrated U.S. Census and USGS National Land Cover Data, to map the Federal Register definition of WUI (Federal Register 66:751, 2001).

The lookout layer is a point location of active fire lookouts utilized by fire agencies in Oregon. The points are attributed with the name of the lookout, the managing agency, the height of the tower, and the elevation at the base of the tower.
