ODF Assistance
The Department of Forestry's Southwest Oregon District provides on-site fuel-reduction assessments at no cost to property owners. ODF staff also provides advice on filling out Oregon Forestland-Urban Interface Fire Protection Act property certification cards.

ODF employees cannot sign a property owner's certification card or perform fuel-reduction work. However, an accredited assessor can. Below are lists of accredited assessors, and a list of additional resources -- trained contractors who can assist property owners with getting fuel-reduction work done.

To schedule an on-site fuel-reduction assessment:
  • In Jackson County, call Brian Ballou at (541) 665-0662
  • In Josephine County, call Kyle Holcombe at (541) 471-3875

Accredited Assessors
The people and businesses on this list have been trained and accredited by the Oregon Department of Forestry according to the administrative rules of the Oregon Forestland-Urban Interface Fire Protection Act of 1997. These people may create a fuel-reduction plan for property owners, complete work as necessary, and sign a property owner’s certification card. A Type 1 accredited assessor is a private contractor who may perform accredited assessor services on forestland-urban interface properties anywhere within Jackson County. The cost of a Type 1 accredited assessor’s work is to be borne by the property owner. A Type 2 accredited assessor is an authorized agent of a structural fire protection district, and may provide accredited assessor services at no cost to the landowners within the fire district’s boundary. A Type 3 accredited assessor is an authorized agent of a home or property owners’ association, and may provide accredited assessor services at no cost to landowners within the association’s boundary.
