District Overview
Agency Mission:   To serve the people of Oregon through the protection, management, and promotion of a healthy forest environment which will enhance Oregon’s livability and economy for today and tomorrow

The West Oregon District, which is comprised of three unit offices, is one of five districts and two other “work centers” within the Northwest Oregon Area.  There are a total of fourteen districts and three areas within the Oregon Department of Forestry.  All perform similar work.  The West Oregon District, covering Benton, Lincoln, Polk, and southwest Yamhill counties, provides forest fire and insect and disease prevention, detection and suppression on approximately 1.1 million acres of forestland and contributes to an integrated forest protection system on a statewide basis.  It provides for cooperative work to public and private landowners to supplement the fire protection system. The district provides for environmental protection on commercial forestland through the administration of the Forest Practices Act; administers assistance programs to private forest landowners; and intensively manages approximately 34,797 acres of State Forest Lands on behalf of the Board of Forestry and the Department of State Lands.

The activities of the Department have direct effects on the local residents, forest landowners, and natural resources.  These activities may have significant impacts on social and economic aspects of business and local communities.  The district accomplishes this work with a biennial budget of approximately seven million dollars and employment of 25 permanent and 20 seasonal employees
