Welcome to the Insect Pest Prevention and Management (IPPM) Section at ODA!
surveying for khapra beetle


The IPPM section is currently surveying for khapra beetle, one of the world's most destructive pests of stored grain, grain products, and seed. Khapra beetle is not known to be established in the US. To survey for khapra beetle, cardboard traps that contain lures are placed at high-risk sites in the Willamette Valley.

Oregon grasshoppers
This year has seen a large buildup of grasshoppers in Eastern Oregon. At the beginning of June, 2007 high numbers of grasshoppers were reported in the Haines area. Surveys recorded economic infestations of grasshoppers stretching from Elgin in Union County to Baker City in Baker County (see attached map). Economic levels are 8 grasshoppers per square yard and above. As of September 2007, almost 600,000 acres are infested with up to 50 grasshoppers per square yard!
Please don't move firewood
Moving firewood may also move harmful insect pests or plant diseases.
