The Forest Biomass Work Group will meet Thursday, March 2, to continue work to enhance the utilization of biomass for energy and other uses in the state.

The 30-member panel will convene at 10 a.m. at Oregon Department of Forestry headquarters, in the Tillamook Room – Administration Building C, 2600 State St., in Salem. The public is invited to attend.

In response to Senate Bill 1072, passed by the 2005 Oregon Legislature, the Biomass Work Group is assisting the departments of Forestry and Energy in exploring options to increase the use of forest biomass – the wood waste from timber harvest as well as the small trees removed by thinnings.

The panel membership represents diverse interests including the forest and energy industries, resource agencies, environmental organizations, elected officials, tribes, labor representatives and local communities.

Accommodations for people with disabilities, and special materials, services or assistance can be arranged by calling the Department of Forestry’s Forest Resources Planning Program at least 48 hours before the meeting - (503) 945-7411, text telephone (503) 945-7213 (in Salem).
