Medically Fragile Courtyard Model, Floor Plan
The
design of the Medically Fragile Courtyard Group Home prototype parallels
that of the Standard Courtyard Model. To meet the needs
of the medically fragile clients who may be confined to wheelchairs
or gurneys and may require ventilators, several changes were incorporated
into this model: a screened-in porch connects the two bedroom wings
and encloses the open-air courtyard; a medical gas system supplies
oxygen through ports in bedrooms and shared spaces; and 3'-6" wide
doors to bedrooms, bathrooms, screened porch, and courtyard. The bathroom
plans are identical to those on the standard courtyard model. The
large, open rooms allow easy access to all fixtures.
A tiled
wainscot on the walls and a non-skid tile on floor with epoxy grout
create a waterproof space that is durable and easy to disinfect.
The
tub and shower areas have a floor drain to ensure good drainage.
Operable windows in each bath provide natural light and ventilation. Each
bathroom
has a large storage cabinet for linens and necessary shower equipment.
