Worksite Redesign Technical Advisory Project

Fire Extinguisher  - general house use, as recommended or approved for your particular home 
  BC type - kitchens and garages 
  ABC type - all other areas 
  mount all extinguishers in a visible area near point of intended use 
FRP - Fiberglass reinforced plastic. Easily cleaned and durable wall covering material used to reduce damage caused by wheelchairs or property-destructive behaviors 
Guardrail - typically 36" to 42" high
Handrail - mounted from 30" to 38"
Hardened - refers to durable construction designed to withstand heavy use and sometimes deliberate abuse. Examples include 1/4" tempered window glass and plywood reinforced interior wall sheeting
Metal halide light - a very bright light (can be up to 800 watts)
Pocket door - a door mounted on a track that slides into the wall
Post-formed countertop - a plastic laminate process that integrates the backsplash and countertop seamlessly
Rate of rise smoke detector - detects a sudden change in temperature; used in kitchens and garages where open flames could be present with little or no smoke 
Turning radius - space needed for wheelchair use, preferably 60" or more
