Transportation Safety

Nationally, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for Hispanics ages 1-44, and the third leading cause of death for all ages surpassed only by heart disease and cancer. These statistics are just one of the reasons Transportation Safety has been a priority of the Ad Hoc Committee for Migrant & Seasonal Farmworker Health.

Thanks to a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation's Traffice Safety Division, the Office of Multicultural Health was able to hire a temporary legal researcher, Bill Matarazzi, to do some research into transportation safety issues. Below are three resource documents:
  1. The Transportation Safety Matrix (pdf) (569K) lists organizations, contacts, areas of jurisdiction, and/or programs of Oregon agencies involved in transportation safety.
  2. Appendix A (pdf) (228K) is a summary report of pertinent state and federal laws.
  3. Appendix F (pdf) (174K) is a report that contains a resource list to access key federal, state, and non-profit agencies and resources on the Internet.
