ABOUT THE HEALTH CARE INTERPRETERS REGISTRY

 

If you are an interpreter, register today and become an important part of Oregon's healthcare delivery system.

 

By being a registered interpreter, you could become a very important link between healthcare providers and individuals with Limited English Proficiency who seek access to medical services. Your chances of becoming an integral part of a health care team are increased and can lead to better wages and work stability.

 

What It Is:

The registry is a database of applicants who have previously or are currently providing health care interpreting services and would like to be contacted by health care providers.

 

It's Purpose:

  1. To create, establish, and maintain a registry for enrollment, qualification and certification of health care interpreters to determine various communities' needs regarding delivery of healthcare services.
  2. To better serve our communities by:
    • Providing relevant information about Health Care Interpreters and the services they provide,through registry enrollment.
    • Establishing procedures for registry, qualification and certification of Health Care Interpreters.

 

How It's Used:

The registry will be used to identify individuals who have previously or are currently providing health care interpreting services by county and region, for potential provider referrals and statistical purposes.

 

Requirements:

The requirement for a person to be included on the Health Care Interpreter registry is, to currently provide, or to have previously provided interpreting services. Qualification and certification requirements will be provided at a later time.
