AAFES Recalls "Soldier Bear" Toys Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: AAFES stores worldwide from August 2006 through October 2007 for between $5 and $20.

 

Hazard: The surface paint on the toys contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: This recall involves the following wooden toys and a plastic military vehicle toy playset. The style number, UPC codes and 'Soldier Bear' logo are printed on the toy's packaging.

Discount School Supply Recalls Measuring Chart Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Discount School Supply catalogs and the company’s Web site from August 2000 through August 2007 for about $10.

 

Hazard: The paint on the grow chart contains excess levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents or injuries reported.

 

Description: The Giant Grow Chart measures a child’s growth with a giant yellow ruler-shaped plastic chart. The grow chart also has a picture of a bean stalk painted on it from top to bottom.

 

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the chart immediately and contact Discount School Supply to receive a credit or refund.

FDA Recall Alert: December 17, 2007

 

Lead Warning for Swad Brand Sindoor Powder

 

Sold at: Product was distributed to grocery stores that specialize in foods from India in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.

 

Hazard: Although the product was not intended to be sold for food use, its labeling is confusing and implies that it may be used as food. The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed two cases of lead poisoning in consumers who used the product as an ingredient in home cooked meals. Other uses of the product, including as a cosmetic, can also be dangerous due to the high lead levels.

 

Description: FDA is warning consumers not to use 3.5 oz. packages of an orange or red powder called Swad brand sindoor, because the product contains high levels of lead. The powder, which is applied to the face or scalp and used in some traditional South Asian Pacific ceremonies, is imported by Raja Foods LLC of Skokie, Illinois. Although the product was not intended to be sold for food use, its labeling is confusing and implies that it may be used as food.

 

 

 

Remedy: Anyone who has consumed this product should consult his or her health care provider immediately. Packages of sindoor can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Children's Water Globes Recalled Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard; Sold Exclusively at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores

 

Sold exclusively at: Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores in Florida, Texas, Missouri and Georgia in November 2007 for about $5.

 

Hazard: The painted base of the water globes contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: The recalled Robbie Ducky water globe is about 1-1/2 inches in diameter and sits on a 1-1/2 by 1-1/2 inch square base. There are four different globe designs including: Robbie Ducky on a red base, a reindeer on a green base, a penguin on a green base and a polar bear on a red base. 'Holiday Inspirations Water Globe' is printed on the bottom of the globes.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled globes away from children and return them to any Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft store for a full refund.

Codee International Corp. Recalls Children's Jewelry Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

 

Sold at: Discount stores nationwide from September 2005 through August 2007 for about $5.

 

Hazard: The recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

 

Description: This recall involves the Codeena Princess children's jewelry. Only jewelry with item numbers KS1367SS and KS1369SCP are included in the recall. The item number is printed on the back of the packaging. The children's jewelry sets were sold in a variety of sets including pink or white pearl-like necklace, bracelet and earring or ring combinations. Some sets have studded charms dangling on the bracelet and the necklace.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewelry away from children and return to the store where purchased for a refund.

Children's Toys Recalled by Dollar Tree Stores Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Dollar Express, Greenbacks, Only One $1 and Deal$ stores nationwide from March 2007 through October 2007 (Baby Bead & Wire Toys) and from September 2007 through November 2007 (Speed Racer Cars) for $1.

 

Hazard: The recalled toys contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: The Baby Bead & Wire Toys are colored wires and colored beads that can slide on a natural wood platform. These bead toys have item number 903419 and date code 71 printed on the back of the packaging. The Speed Racer Pull Back & Go Action! Cars are yellow with black stripes and white with red stripes. Item number 873820 and date code 77 is printed on the back of the packaging.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take these toys away from children and return to the store where purchased for a refund.

Fishing Games Sold at Grocery Stores Recalled by Far East Brokers Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Grand Union Family Markets, Southern Family Markets, P&C Stores, Publix Super Markets, and Food Lion stores nationwide from October 2007 through November 2007 for about $10.

Hazard: The recalled game has parts that contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recalled Fishing Game contains a fishing pole, one large battery operated fish, and three small wind-up fish. The UPC #011546208270 and product #25741 are printed on the product's packaging.

 

Remedy:  Consumers should immediately take the product away from children and return it to the store where purchased for a full refund.

Horseshoe Magnets Recalled by United Scientific Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Independent distributors nationwide from March 1995 through September 2007 for about $1. Distributors sold the products to schools for use in science classes.

Hazard: Surface paint on the magnets contains high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standards. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

 

Description: This recall involves horseshoe-shaped magnets sold in five sizes. The horseshoes have red paint on the surface of the magnet. Product numbers included in the recall are: SHM020 (two inch), SHM030 (three inch), SHM040 (four inch), SHM050 (five inch), and SHM060 (six inch).

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these products and contact United Scientific to receive a replacement product.

Children's Sunglasses Recalled by FGX International Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Various stores nationwide from January 2007 through November 2007 for between $3 and $11.

 

Hazard: Surface paint on the sunglasses can contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recall involves 15 styles of children's sunglasses. The style name is printed on the product inside the left temple arm. The name 'Foster Grant' may also appear on the temple arm of some styles. The styles included in the recall are:

The Home Depot Recalls Holiday Figurines Due to Lead Paint Hazard

 

Sold exclusively at: The Home Depot stores from October 2007 through November 2007 for between $10 and $20.

 

Hazard: Surface paint on the holiday figurines contains lead. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recalled holiday figurines are painted plastic snowmen and bears. The SKU number is printed on the bottom of the product.

CPSC Recall Alert: December 6, 2007

 

RC2 Recalls Potty Training Seats Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Mass and specialty retailers nationwide from April 2006 through August 2007 for between $20 and $25.

 

Hazard: Decorative plaque inserted into the back of the potty seat could have orange paint that contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recall involves the First Years 3-in-1 Flush and Sounds potty training seats. Each seat has either a yellow chair with a green removable seat and a purple lift out-pot or a blue chair with a white removable seat and green lift out-pot. The words "100 Acre Wood" are molded on the chair back. The plaque inserted into the back of the seat contains molded Winnie the Pooh and Tigger characters.

 

Remedy: Consumers should keep these recalled items away from young children and should contact RC2 to receive a permanent clear protective cover that covers the plaque. The unit can still be used as a potty seat.

Bell Racing Recalls Collectible Mini Racing Helmets Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Bell Racing dealers and distributors nationwide from February 2007 through November 2007 for about $40.

 

Hazard: Surface paints on the recalled helmets contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recalled products are six-inch tall, collectible, miniature helmets, modeled after helmets worn by several race car drivers. The follow models are included in the recall: Terry Borcheller helmet, part number 2005740; Kurt Busch helmet, part number 2001368; and Vitor Meira helmet, part number 2001381. The part number is located on the product’s packaging with the UPC.

 

Remedy: Consumers should take the recalled helmets away from young children immediately and contact Bell Racing to receive a full refund.

FDA Recall Alert: December 4, 2007

 

San Antonio Company Recalling Barrilito Mexican Candy

 

San Antonio company is voluntarily recalling jars of candy imported from Mexico after testing by the Texas Department of Health Services found elevated levels that could cause health problems.

 

Hazard: Recent laboratory tests show lead levels above the 0.1 parts per million lead level considered to be a potential public health hazard by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Candy samples ranged from 0.101 to 0.132 parts per million of lead. No cases of illness have been linked to the candy.

 

 

 

Description: Villa-Mex Imports, Inc., is recalling Barrilito, a dark brown thick syrup sold in 3.3 ounce (100 gram) glass barrel-shaped jars with white plastic lids. The yellow label shows the name “Barrilito” in red outline letters. The label also reads: Productos Avila, S.A. de C.V. Puerto Malaque 1379 Col. Sta. Maria Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.

 

Remedy: Consumers who have the recalled product should not eat it and should return it to point of purchase or throw it away.

CPSC Recall Alert: November 29, 2007

 

American Greetings Corp. Recalls Confetti Bursts Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Discount, toy, drug, grocery, party, and specialty/gift stores nationwide from December 2003 through September 2007 for about $3.

 

Hazard: The surface paint on the individual bags of confetti contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recalled products contain confetti in plastic bags. When the bags are inflated, consumers squeeze the bag and confetti bursts out. Each package contains six confetti bursts.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled confetti bursts away from children and contact American Greetings for instructions on returning the confetti bursts to American Greetings to receive a coupon redeemable wherever American Greetings' products are sold.

Reeves International Inc. Recalls Holiday Ornaments Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Various retailers nationwide, including JC Penney catalog and Web site, from July 2006 through October 2007 for between $15 and $18.

 

Hazard: Surface paints on the ornaments contain high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standards. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The 2006 Snow Princess Stirrup Ornament is a stirrup-shaped ornament with a white prancing horse and blue ribbons. '2006' is stamped on the rim of the ornament. The 2007 Wintersong Stirrup Ornament is a stirrup-shaped ornament with a grey horse with saddle bags with a horn and a violin. '2007' is stamped on the rim of the ornament. The 2007 Photo Frame Horse Shoe Ornament is a horse shoe shaped ornament with a brown horse with rider jumping over a gate. 'Happy Holiday 2007' is printed on the back of the ornament.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these ornaments and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund or contact Reeves International Inc. for a refund or exchange.

Hazard: The recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recalled jewelry was sold under the Rachel Rose and Distinctly Basics brands and includes key rings and pins with religious themes (crosses and fish symbols), key rings with "Mom" and cheerleader charms; bracelets with charms like handbags, flip flops, hearts, dresses, and flowers; silver-colored rings with designs or stones in a variety of colors; clutchless hoop earrings with decorations such as butterflies; and filigree and long drop earrings with stones in a variety of colors.

Discount School Supply Recalls Paint Brushes Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold by: Discount School Supply's catalog and Web site from May 2004 through August 2007 for about $5. The BioColor® kits were sold from May 2004 through June 2006 for about $60. The Colorations® kits were sold from July 2006 through August 2007 for about $60.

Hazard: Surface paint on the brush handles can contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recall involves a set of six 'shaving-style' brushes, which are about 4-inches long. The brushes' handles are painted blue, purple, orange, yellow, lime green, and pink. The item number #SHVBRSH is printed on the product's packaging. Brush sets with handles in brown, dark blue, red, green, blue, and black are not included in this recall. The recalled brushes were also included with the 'BioColor® Foam Paint Starter Kit' and 'Colorations® Foam Paint Starter Kit.'

 

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the brushes immediately and contact Discount School Supply to receive a free replacement brush set.

Description: The recalled necklace and earring sets have a silver metal chain and a round pendant with a light blue jewel and three jeweled dangling charms.

Children's Metal Jewelry Recalled by Colossal Jewelry & Accessories Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

 

Sold at: Various discount and dollar stores nationwide from January 2005 through June 2007 for about $1.

 

Hazard: The recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects. No incidents/injuries have been reported.

 

Description: The recalled metal necklaces and bracelets have silver-colored charms. Some also have colored beads. 'Awesome Boutique' or 'Share the Love' is printed on some of the jewelry's packaging. The jewelry includes a necklace with a metal flower-shaped charm that hangs from a pink cord, a metal heart charm bracelet, a metal heart angel charm bracelet with colored beads, a metal bracelet with four heart charms and ruby-colored beads, necklaces with painted hearts that hang from a cord, and necklaces with tiny purses in various colors.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewelry away from children and return it to the store where purchased for a full refund.

Description: This recall involves all 2007 Halloween-themed baskets with item number 5464201. The item number is located next to the price on the paper hangtag on the handle. The plastic baskets are either black or orange with two carrying handles. An emblem of a witch, bat or pumpkin is attached to each side of the handle. The baskets measure 3 inches wide by 6 inches long by 4 ½ inches deep.
