The Department has completed the required Nurse Staffing Audits. Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 441.170(3) requires an annual random audit of not less than seven percent. This is equal to at least 5 audits. This year the department was able to complete seven audits, which served as a good test of the new changes in the nurse staffing law.

Hospitals included in this years audit included bed capacities from 25 beds to 188 beds.

Numbers of Nursing Staff ranged from 67 to 464 employees.

Location of hospital audits included the Oregon Coast, Portland, Southern Oregon, Eastern Oregon and the Columbia Gorge.

Three of the seven hospitals were in full compliance with the Nurse Staffing law.

Three of the seven hospitals were in partial compliance of six audit points requiring a plan of correction.

One of the seven hospitals had a total of seventeen audit points and was assessed a civil penalty of $2500. The hospital paid the civil penalty.

The department received and investigated 2 Nurse Staffing Complaints during this reporting period.

Please review the audit matrix   (pdf - 98K) for additional detail regarding the nurse staffing audits that were completed.
