General Class Descriptions

The programs currently offered by the MTU are as follows:
First Responder through Paramedic assessment and management skills are practiced using

In a given scenario the First Responder/ EMT team will practice, Initial assessment, Focused Assessment and Patient Management skills.


Average class length is 2.5 hours.

Adult Patient Curriculua

  • Acute Abdomen Patient Assessment - scenario based hands-on assessment and management of the Acute Abdomen
  • Altered Mentation - scenario based hands-on assessment and management of the patient with altered mentation
  • Burn Patient Assessment Management
  • Emergency Childbirth - normal and abnormal deliveries
  • Environmental Emergencies - heat or cold related emergencies
  • Geriatric Patient - AED Refresher and Practice - Mini - Mega Codes
  • Geriatric Patient - CVA/TIA's Assessment and Management, hands on scenarios
  • Medical Patient Assessment - hands-on patient care of the Adult Medical Patient
  • Trauma Patient Assessment - hands-on patient care of the Adult Trauma Patient.
  • Rapid Extrication Spinal Immobilization
  • S.T.A.R.T Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment, the student learns triage of multiple patients, this course is recommended for any persons who might be first on scene, Fire, Law Enforcement, QRTs does not require EMT training

  • EMS Stress - recognition and management
  • Effective Report Writing, what you don't know can hurt you
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations -- 8 hours in length.
  • Hazmat and EMS - Review of the s/s of hazardous material exposure, scenarios based on actual cases
  • Incident Command - EMS Branch
  • MCI/MPI Table Top Drill with 21 plus patients, using the IC system, identifying resources and jobs
  • MCI/MPI Drill -planned or surprise drill to evaluate your MPI/MCI system.
  • Medical Legal and Ethical Issues Facing Oregon EMTs
  • Creative Pharmacololgy - Street Drugs - recognition of S/S, & environment for EMT safety plus hands on patient care of the drug overdose patient
