First Responder Certification & Recertification
2007 Program Information
The DHS-EMS & Trauma Systems Program recently proposed revision and updates to the Oregon Administrative Rule 333-265 addressing requirements for training and certification of First Responders and EMTs and proposed changes in fees. These proposed changes will impact the First Responder Program and Oregon Certified First Responders.

In addition to the EMT programs, Oregon also has a very active First Responder training program. In cooperation with approximately 160 agencies across Oregon, we provide the following services.
Certification
Oregon First Responder education is provided through the use of the following curriculum:
Emergency Medical Services: First Responder Training
U.S. Department of Transportation
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
August 1995
This course consists of forty hours of didactic, including lab work.

Recertification
First Responder certification expires June 30 of every even-numbered year. During the recertification biennium, the First Responder must complete sixteen (16) hours of continuing education in the following areas.

Recertification for the First Responder is obtained through the agency that provided the course and the original certification.
