Asthma Surveillance Data and Statistics
- Oregon Asthma Surveillance Report 2007 (pdf) ---- A compilation of data on asthma in Oregon. This report includes information on the following elements:

Geographic Disparities in Pediatric Asthma Control Among Oregon Children on Medicaid (pdf) ---- This report identifies counties in Oregon experiencing higher rates of poorly controlled asthma among children ages 0-17 years old who are on the Oregon Health Plan. Claims data for emergency department visit rates, hospitalization rates, and rates of a low medication ratio were mapped using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and included in this report. Maps are available for the following three age groups: 0-17, 0-4, and 5-17. This report was developed with guidance from the Oregon Asthma Disparities Leadership Team, comprised of representatives from a broad range of health systems and community based organizations and agencies.
Focus Group Report: People with Asthma & Caregivers of Children with Asthma (pdf) ---- The Oregon Asthma Program conducted four focus groups in Fall 2007. The groups included two groups with people with asthma and two groups with caregivers of children with asthma. The focus groups were conducted in Portland and Eugene. Topics include:
- Being diagnosed with asthma;
- Perceived severity of asthma, especially compared with other diseases such as diabetes or heart disease;
- Asthma control and management;
- Interactions with the healthcare system and providers;
- Asthma education;
- Community support; and
- Smoking and secondhand smoke
- Asthma Data Tables from BRFSS ---- A series of data tables on asthma in Oregon from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The data tables include information up through the 2004 BRFSS.
- CD Summary Issues ---- Asthma-related issues from the Disease Prevention and Epidemiology Program at Oregon Health Services.
- A View of Asthma ---- This periodical newsletter is published by the Oregon Asthma Program and often includes Oregon asthma data. We currently have issues on the following topics:
- CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports ----Asthma-related issues from MMWR Weekly.
- U.S. Asthma Data Fact Sheet (pdf) ---- Asthma ranks among the most common chronic conditions in the United States, affecting an estimated 14.9 million persons in 1995 and causing over 1.5 million emergency department visits, about 500,000 hospitalizations, and over 5,500 deaths.
