Director's Message
Nov. 22, 2006
To: All DHS employees
From: Bruce Goldberg, Director
"Appreciation is a wonderful thing; it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well."
~Voltaire
I'm sending this quick message a few days early because I'm leaving soon to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends back east. I hope that each of you also is able to enjoy this holiday with those you love.
And, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to thank all of you for your dedication and hard work each and every day in helping DHS achieve our mission of enabling people to become independent, healthy and safe. You make life better for thousands of individuals in need, and you protect the health of all Oregonians. That's meaningful work and important work, and I thank you for it.
There are many kinds of families in this world -- those we're born into, those we create, and the people with whom we spend time. Each of us is a member of many families, including our DHS family. And, like all families, we occasionally may squabble and have our differences, but we're all in this together and we want everything to go well. I joined the DHS family a little more than a year ago, and I have found this agency to be one that cares deeply for the people we serve and for each other. I am very appreciative of the support I've received from each of you during my first year.
This Thanksgiving season, I encourage you to join me in giving thanks to the members of our DHS family closest to you -- your co-workers who help you every day at work to get your job done. I couldn't do it without you, and we couldn't do it without each other.
Thank you for being such a great family.
