Please join us at the 11th Annual Shoulder to Shoulder Conference - "Building a Community." The Conference is a collaborative partnership between various community agencies and the Department of Human Services Children, Adults and Families Division.

 

Foster and adoptive parents, CASA's, caseworkers, lawyers, judicial officers, Citizen Review Board (CRB) members and anyone who works with and loves children are all invited to attend.

Continuing Education
Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) are available for social workers, attorneys, foster parents and mental health professionals. Please check in at the registration desk to receive information about how you can acquire credits for conference attendance.

Charles Lee-Johnson
Keynote speaker, Charles Lee-Johnson is the Executive Director of National Family Life and Education Center (NFLEC). Lee-Johnson will kick-off the conference with his presentation, titled "Transforming a Mess Into a Message" to equip participants with the necessary tools to transform their obstacles into opportunities. 

 

April Curtis

Enjoy your lunch with keynote speaker April Curtis as she delivers her presentation, "Through the Eyes of a Former Foster Child." April is an alumnus of the Illinois child welfare system and a passionate advocate of sibling rights and other foster youth issues. Please join April as she walks you through her journey of finding her true colors.

The conference workshop sessions offer educational and thought-provoking topics with exceptional speakers who address issues that impact children and youth in all parts of the child welfare system. The goal is helping all of us become better, more caring adults in the lives of these children.
