Secure Email From DHS
Compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), other regulations and contractual obligations has provided the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) with the opportunity to take additional steps to increase the security of out-bound electronic communications.
DHS has installed new software that secures outbound email containing confidential data and protected health information (PHI). A secure email is altered (or "encrypted") so that it is unintelligible to unauthorized parties.
DHS is now securing all outbound email containing confidential data or PHI. Instead of receiving email directly to your inbox, you will receive a notification message that DHS has an email waiting for you on a secure server. A link will take you, via a secure browser, to that server, where you will receive instructions for opening the email.
The following links will provide answers to Frequently Asked Questions, identify the process for retrieving secure emails and configuring your internet browser to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
